Biogas / Biomethane Projects
Renewable energy, waste utilization

Anaerobic digestion process and biogas production
Anaerobic digestion transforms organic matter in the absence of oxygen into simpler compounds and biogas, thanks to the action of different bacteria in two phases: a fermentative hydrolytic and a methanogenic one. The biogas obtained can be used to generate electricity and heat through cogeneration. The resulting residue, called digestate, is suitable as agricultural fertilizer.
Biogas plant areas and components
The plant includes several areas: reception and pretreatment of the substrates (which can be solid, liquid or semi-solid), feeding and mixing of the materials, the digester with temperature and agitation controls, the cogeneration area to take advantage of the biogas, pumping and circulation of the material, and finally the evacuation of the digestate, which can be treated or applied directly to agricultural land.

Financing and economic valuation
The investment varies depending on the power of the plant (for example, a 500 kW plant can cost around 2.5 million euros) with a payback period of around 5 years. EMA depuración has investors and offers advice on accessing European and state subsidies that facilitate the economic viability of the projects.
